OVERVIEW OF COURSE:

We will be using the above noted compilation of federal statutes. With regard to case law, you will need to use your Westlaw and/or Lexis expertise, and are expected to find and print cases that I will assign. Please bring hard copies of the assigned cases to the classes that we are to discuss them during. You will be expected to read and be familiar with the majority opinions only, unless I direct otherwise.

The course will begin with an overview of federal employment law statutes in the United States. We will then study the at-will employment rule, the public policy exception to it, and the implied contract concept regarding employment law. We will also study the federal Family Medical Leave Act; the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act; remedies under federal employment laws; and the Labor Management Relations Act, 29 U.S.C. ' 141 et seq.

This course should appeal to all persons intending to litigate federal employment cases, and to those who will work in corporate and government legal offices with regard to advising employees and employers and compiling handbooks and policies.

Assignments for each week will be given on in class on Friday of the prior week. Assignments for the next week will also appear after each Friday's class on our class web site, which is found through the University of Oklahoma College of Law website.

ATTENDANCE:

You are required to attend 80% of the classes.

GRADING:

Grades will be based on one final examination which will take place in accordance with the OU Law School final examinations schedule.
